Welcome to Red Deer, a city that isn’t just incredible because it’s home to central Alberta’s largest retail lighting showroom (excuse our shameless self promotion), but also because there’s plenty to love about our charming city. In celebration of Thanksgiving, we’ve listed the things we’re thankful for here in Red Deer, and hey, maybe you’ll check them out this long weekend!
To Edmontonians and Calgarians, Red Deer is mainly known for being the midway point between these cities. It’s where you take a pitstop and grab some food from the many choices Red Deer’s “Gasoline Alley” has to offer. If you’re on a budget and looking to try something new, this is the place to go. Gasoline Alley offers a huge variety of fast food restaurants, including a local favorite: Peter’s Drive-In and… the Donut Mill!
Red Deer Golf and Country Club (RDGCC)
Golfers rejoice! The RDGCC is a beautiful course if you enjoy a course surrounded by trees (currently in beautiful hues of red, orange, and brown), and the occasional “Hello!” from a friendly deer, because there are many in the area.
Kerry Wood Nature Centre
This centre is dedicated to sharing and educating people of all ages about the stunning nature found in Red Deer. It’s also located adjacent to a bird sanctuary. Centre events span cultural topics right down to learning about constellations. Check out the centre’s schedule by clicking here.
Why not support local kids’ and teenagers’ hockey dreams by cheering them on at a game? Red Deer Pond Hockey is a family-oriented, volunteer-run organization. Grab a hot chocolate and get to the outdoor rink (there are four). Check out schedule and registration information here.
Got an urge to socialize? Red Deer serves up a great night life! Girls nights, guys nights, couples, and singles have a huge selection of hotspots to check out. Places like Cowboys Bar and Nightclub will have you on the dance floor until 3 a.m.. Red Deer Night Out is a great source of information; it lists every bar, restaurant, and entertainment event, so you can plan your weekends easily.
The Red Deer Kinsmen Club
The Red Deer Kinsmen Club consists of volunteers looking to make a lasting impact on their community. Many of the new playgrounds and sporting facilities we see around Red Deer are funded completely, or in part, with money raised by this great organization. Red Deer Kinsmen holds an annual home lottery, which raises funds that stay within the community and support local charities and causes. Red Deer Lighting is once again proud to be one of the sponsors of the home lottery. Click here to learn more about this year’s Kinsmen Dreamhome.
There’s no shortage of things to love in our beautiful city. We hope to see you out and about in Red Deer this weekend!
